Megan Thee Stallion says of the alleged 2020 Tory Lanez shooting.

Megan Thee Stallion became a household name with her hit single “Savage” in the early summer of 2020.

Megan Pete, a Houston, Texas native with big dreams, was Megan Pete before she was known professionally as Megan Thee Stallion.

“I’ve always been self-assured.
I’ve always been outspoken.
I’ve always been a people person.
For example, I’ve always enjoyed entertaining.
When I look at it now, I think, ‘Dang.
‘We really did it,’ Megan Thee Stallion said on “CBS Mornings.” “Gayle King is a co-host.

“I really thought we were all friends,” Megan Thee Stallion says of the alleged 2020 Tory Lanez shooting.

On social media, her confidence, sound, and outsized personality earned her a slew of “hotties,” as she refers to them. She drew the attention of some of her contemporaries, such as rapper Nicki Minaj, who collaborated with her on the single “Hot Girl Summer,” and Beyoncé, who remixed “Savage.”

Megan Thee Stallion was soaring professionally in 2020, but she was going through some personal turmoil after the death of her mother in 2019.
When she was 15, she had already lost her father.

“They were my closest companions.
It was always just the three of us “Megan Thee Stallion spoke up.
“Like, when I went to school… it was a little different with me interacting with other kids… and they [her parents] just really let me know, like, you can’t ever, ever let somebody else’s insecurities make you insecure.”

But it wasn’t until July of 2020 that Megan Thee Stallion said she’d go through something she still has nightmares about.

After leaving a house party in the Hollywood Hills with rapper Tory Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, and a Houston friend, she claimed there was an argument in the car because she wanted to leave but others did not.

“It was an argument because I was prepared to go and everyone else wasn’t.”
But that’s just normal friend stuff,” Megan Thee Stallion explained to King.
“It shouldn’t have gotten this out of hand.”

“It was an argument with the two people in the back seat.”
So I requested that the driver pull over. I’m like, I’m finished with this.
And I should not have gotten in the car in the first place.
I should not have gotten back in the car, for example.
‘Megan, just get back in the car,’ they said.
We’re nearly there.’
And just, like, ‘Get back in.’
As a result, I get back in my car.
It’s… deteriorating “She stated.

Megan Thee Stallion claims she got out of the car as the argument heated up, and that’s when Lanez accused her of firing a gun at her several times.

“So I get out of the car, and everything seems to happen so quickly.
And all I can hear is this man yelling.
‘Dance, bitch,’ he said.
And he began shooting. And I’m like, ‘Oh my God,’ because he shot a couple of times.
“And I was terrified,” Megan Thee Stallion admitted.

“Is he in the car, Megan, shooting from the car?”
How is he doing?
“King asked her to elaborate.

“He’s leaning against the window, shooting.”
And I didn’t want to move at all.
“I didn’t want to move too quickly,” the rapper explained, adding that she was thinking at the time, “I don’t know if he’s going to shoot something that’s, like, super important.”
I’m not sure if he could shoot and kill me.”

Megan Thee Stallion said she looked down at her feet and saw she was bleeding. She claimed she crawled into someone’s driveway after learning Lanez had shot her.

Lanez pleaded not guilty to assault and weapons charges in connection with Megan Thee Stallion’s shooting in late 2020.
A judge ordered him earlier this month not to make any public mention of the case or the victim.
The trial is scheduled for September of this year.

Megan Thee Stallion claimed Lanez apologized and offered her money not to say anything after the shooting.

“‘I’m so sorry,’ he says.
Please, don’t tell anyone.
If you don’t say anything, I’ll give you a million dollars.’
‘What are you talking about?’ I ask.
Why, for example, are you offering me money right now?
Please assist me. “Like, and if you’re sorry, just help me,” she explained.

After receiving reports of shots fired, the Los Angeles Police Department arrived on the scene shortly after.

Megan Thee Stallion told King that she initially told officers that she had stepped on broken glass to protect the group in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death at the hands of police.

“I was just trying to keep everyone safe because I didn’t want them to kill us.”
Even though this person had just done this to me, my initial reaction was to try to save us.
I didn’t want to see anyone die.

“So I just said, ‘I stepped on glass,'” she sobbed.
That is something she wishes she hadn’t said because it is frequently used against her by people who don’t believe her account of what happened that night.

“I wish I had told the truth.”
But if it saved all of us from death, then that’s probably what it was meant to be,” she explained.

She was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where doctors informed her that she had bullet fragments in both of her feet, some of which she claims are still there.

Megan Thee Stallion admitted that she sometimes blames herself for what allegedly occurred that night.
“I honestly thought we were all friends.
And I sometimes feel like I’m blaming myself because after my mother died, I just felt like I was looking for some kind of family environment.

“And I was letting in so many people,” she explained.
“I didn’t give a damn who it was.
I just wanted to feel like I had family and people who cared about me, and I wanted to be able to hang out with everyone.
And I was just reading it.”

We spoke with Shawn Holley, Lanez’s attorney, about the allegations in this story, including the claim that her client offered the two women money to remain silent that night. When his case goes to trial later this year, Holley says he “looks forward to addressing Ms. Pete’s claims, including her inconsistencies, discrepancies, and omissions.”

Kelsey Harris, an attorney for the other passenger in the car that night, told CBS News, “My client is a private person and does not wish to make a public statement at this time,” adding, “I can assure you that my client has not been paid a dime by any party involved to’remain silent,’ as suggested in social media posts.”

We also contacted the District Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles about this case.
“We believe the evidence substantially supports the charges and allegations,” they said, “and that evidence will be borne out in court.”
Megan Thee Stallion stated that her anxiety has worsened since the alleged incident, that she finds it difficult to trust people, and that she struggles to hold a conversation for more than 30 minutes.

Megan Thee Stallion said she wishes she could talk to her mother during these times.

“Half the time, all I want to do is pick up the phone and call my momma and say, ‘What do I do?'”
It’s as if it’s too much.
I’m going insane.
I’m depressed.
“I feel like I have to keep it all in because I have to be strong for so many people,” she explained.

Megan Thee Stallion told King that she is not going to defend herself against those who do not believe she was shot that night.

“Like, I know this happened to me, and I’d rather it play out in court and all the facts come out than me having to plead my case,” she explained.
“I’m a victim… I’m not defending myself in any way.
As an example, something happened to me.”
