Job Summary: Our Estimator is responsible for preparing all estimates/quotations required for projects. Specifically, the evaluation of specification, drawings, and other documentation to establish the estimated costs on projects. To determine customer vision and identify possible value engineered items. Items identified are to be presented to Sales to determine how to proceed. Additionally, the Estimator will coordinate with the Project Manager the processing of Change Order requests. Goal is to provide the customer with the product they are pursuing in the most cost-effective way, thereby increasing sales and profits while reducing errors.

Essential Job Functions: - Prepare estimates utilizing current estimating software and practices
- Evaluate the specification, drawings, bid request and other documentation to determine estimated cost
- Complete products estimates/take-offs by reviewing bid documents for opportunities to obtain approval with the sales team of:
- Changing non-standard products to standard products
- Changing non-standard products to less expensive non-standard products
- Provide less expensive options for purchased products
- Identify opportunities to change product fit application
- Identify items that maybe "double" specified and may not need to be provided
- Obtain vendor quotations and review for accuracy and compliance to project requirements
- Assist sales team in developing a bid strategy
- Complete bid recap for each project to be reviewed with sales team
- Complete quotation for each project to be reviewed with sales team
- Document all approved and non-approved suggestions for incorporation into estimate
- Document reduction of gross margin variances for manager, sales team and project support team use
- Participate in project team meetings and coordinate assignments as determined during the meeting
- Attend internal/external training opportunities (some overnight travel is required)
- Travel to job sites to participate in various meetings as required
- Develop necessary internal and external relationships to successfully manage projects to meet or exceed customer expectations
- Work with management team to develop programs for improving/enhancing processes
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: - To successfully perform this job the employee should posses strong organizational and interpersonal skills, be detail oriented and conscientious and be self-motivated.
- The employee must also have the ability to foster positive teamwork relationships with vendors and fellow employees, learn the specification and technical details of the products we distribute as well as those of our competition.
- Use professionalism and ethical judgement in all areas of the position. Such qualifications would normally be found in an individual with a bachelor's degree in a related field and or equivalent related work experience.
Physical Requirements: - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, hear, and speak to use the telephone and to communicate with individuals both inside and outside the organization.
- Effectively communicate and follow oral and written instructions, and possess arm, hand, and finger dexterity to use when reaching, handling, grasping, or using a keyboard.
- The employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand.
- The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
