 About the job:

The Fitness instructor leads groups in exercise, helping them meet their fitness goals. They may work with individual clients as a personal trainer, or they may teach classes in a health center. Performs new member assessments and orientations, personal training sessions and writes membership agreements. Supervises the fitness floor, assists in the maintenance of the fitness equipment, teaches group exercise classes and interacts with members in order to assess needs for new equipment and classes. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide personal fitness training that is appropriate to the ages of patients served. The Spin Class Instructor must have availability for 5am classes. Weekends are optional.

Responsibilities:

• Selects and administers appropriate fitness programs consistent with physician orders and professional assessment of patient’s needs. 
• Ensures efficient operation of the Fitness Program by assisting the Wellness Center Director in maintaining fitness equipment in proper operating condition.
• Performs new member fitness assessments and orientations according to appropriate protocol.
• Schedules and documents appropriately all new member assessments, orientations, and regular personal training sessions.
• Teaching group exercise classes.
• Assists with various health promotion and wellness programs for members and Hopedale Medical Complex employees as needed.
• Supervises the fitness floor to ensure the safety of all members and patients.
• Assists in the maintenance of fitness equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning the equipment, writing work requests, and contacting equipment representatives as needed.
• Responsible for supporting the Mission and applying it to the areas of responsibility. 
• Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with department and Medical Complex personnel and outside agencies.
• Supports and is involved in the Wellness Center’s continuous quality improvement efforts designed to increase patient outcomes, increase patient satisfaction, and improve the utilization of Hopedale Medical Complex in human, capital and physical resources.

• The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide personal fitness training appropriate to the age and medical condition of the members served in the Wellness Center. This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional, and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, personal fitness training programs, techniques and modalities at a level normally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree in a Health-Related field.
• Holds a current fitness training certificate or is eligible for certification as a personal fitness trainer.
• Holds current CPR/AED certification or willing to obtain certification.
• Interpersonal skills are necessary in order to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, families, and Medical Complex personnel when providing guidance for fitness programs, and appropriately exchange patient-related information.
• Analytical skills necessary in order to develop and assess fitness programs and recommend changes to some and resolve technical problems

Physical Demands

• Work requires ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a daily basis.
• Work requires ability to carry objects weighting up to 50 pounds on a daily basis.
• Work requires ability to stand, walk and kneel for 90% of work time.
• Work requires ability to stoop and bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands, have manual dexterity and color vision and communicate with other people.

Compensation details: 15-17 Hourly Wage
