Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated HECM (Reverse) Underwriter to join our team, where you will play a vital role in underwriting residential loans. Your focus will be on ensuring compliance with company standards, secondary market investor requirements, and all applicable laws. In this position, you will carefully examine loan documentation for accuracy and completeness while collaborating with Loan Originators, Branch Managers, and Processors to gather the necessary documents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review loan applications and associated documentation according to HECM guidelines, policies, and procedures, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy.
- Maintain timely turnaround for initial decisions and condition reviews, meeting departmental expectations.
- Collaborate with Quality Control, Compliance, and Funding teams to resolve issues and address compliance concerns.
- Build and maintain a solid understanding of HECM product guidelines and risk assessment tools.
- Adjust loan terms as necessary, identifying any additional conditions to support a viable credit decision.
- Evaluate borrower profiles, including income documentation, tax returns, credit reports, preliminary reports, judgments, bankruptcy documents, and appraisals. Ensure all necessary documentation is collected to support final loan decisions.
- Exhibit proficiency in manual underwriting policies and procedures.
- Stay informed about secondary market activity and business practices that impact underwriting quality and origination activity.
- Foster positive relationships with loan originators, management, and processors.
- Utilize MS Office products effectively in your work.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in residential loan underwriting.
- DE certification and recent FHA underwriting experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of FHA/HECM policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with various fraud detection tools.
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Experience in managing relationships with internal and external partners effectively.
- Previous mortgage processing experience is a plus.
- Experience with repurchase response and/or rebuttal review and preparation is beneficial.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to report, analyze, and interpret data.
