Job Purpose The role of a teacher is to create a flexible program and class environment that is favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for all students in accordance with each student's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and staff members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Teaches Spanish, utilizing courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and all other appropriate learning activities
- Literate and fluent in Spanish, can develop a cultural understanding and appreciation of Spanish speaking countries
- Develops fluency and can guide students in conversational Spanish
- Develops lessons plans and instructional materials, provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
- Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.
- Translates lessons plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
- Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems
- Creates an affective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines
- Selects/requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day
- Administers group standardized tests in accordance with State testing program
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal or other school leadership
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Spanish or Education from an accredited College or University
- Team player with experience working in a collaborative environment
- Ability to listen to and communicate with parents
- Possess conflict resolution skills
- Utilizes good organizational skills to meet classroom and individual needs
- Capable of working with small/large classroom groups

Language Skills •Ability to read, write and speak proficiently using the Spanish language

Physical Demands Majority of work will be performed in a general office/school environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization sponsored events and meetings
