Our Body Engineering team is looking for a significant contributor to a world-class vehicle engineering team by supporting with plastics expertise and owning polymer-related aspects from concept phase to product launch.
Role
- Be a significant contributor to a world-class vehicle engineering team by supporting with plastics expertise and owning polymer-related aspects from concept phase to product launch
- Consultation with design engineers and suppliers throughout product development process, optimizing part function, efficiency, and cost
- Extraction of material requirements from part specifications and material selection after holistic evaluation of plastic grades
- Utilization of understanding of polymers (e.g. structure property relation) to troubleshoot parts and processes
- Development and implementation of test methods and material specifications
- Support of internal non-engineering teams and representation of Lucid material team in communication with suppliers (incl. on-site visits)
Qualifications - Experience, selecting and developing plastics and composite materials.5+ years of experience for Senior Engineer level, 8+ years for Technical Specialist level.
- Must have worked in automotive development environment, ideally through complete product development process
- Good knowledge of injection molded materials, in-mold decoration technology utilizing luxury materials such as synthetic leather, suede, wood, and metal
- Proven experience in selection of plastic grades for different applications
- Proven hands-on experience with plastic injection molding process, including process optimization
- Able to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% if needed
Advantageous
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with other plastic manufacturing processes and their part designs (e.g. blow molding, thermal forming, vacuum forming, over molding, compression molding, slush molding)
- Experience with secondary processes (e.g. joining, painting, plating, press/vacuum lamination)
- Experience developing and implementing test methods and material characterization.
Education
- MS degree in polymer engineering, material science or related field
